55th Reunion at Borios
Below is the content of an email from Mudd Murphy about the 55th Reunion:
SEPTEMBER 17, 2015
It was close to noon, an ideal fall day, with the temperature hovering in the high seventies. Classmates began to roll into the parking lot at BORIOS RESTURANT to celebrate our 55th Class Reunion. Suddenly, the air was filled with loud shouts of, “HEY” …. “Great to see you again,” high fives, handshakes and hugs flying all over the place.
As we gathered together in the dining room the scene overlooking Oneida Lake was serine. The water was calm and the reflection of Frenchman and Dunham Islands moving in the water ,as if they had dropped anchor for the afternoon , to listen in on old friends greet one another and share their lives past and the present.
As more and more classmates began to assemble the noise level was beginning to reach a crescendo filling the room with laughter, wide grins, slaps on the back and a repeated phrase of, “It’s good to see you!” “You look great!” Now at this point I must share with you an observation. I saw a lot of people beginning to reach up and scratch behind there ear. No, the mosquitos where not biting! I think it had to do with adjusting the noise level on the hearing aids. That’s how loud it was getting.
Soon, Dave Snyder raised his hands and voice to get everyone’s attention to grab a chair and get seated. “THE GRUB WAS READY TO BE SERVED!” The chatter around the tables continued with caring questions. “Where do you live now?” “Do you go to Florida for the winter?” “How are your children and how many grandchildren do you have?”
Diane Avery brought some photos of our 25th Reunion to pass around. Most of us have aged in the past 30 years, accept for one person, Jeanne Burton Rittenhouse. …..She decided thirty years ago, she was going to remain 43. Jeanne, I hope you bottled up some of that water from the fountain of youth and bring it with you next year to our 56th reunion to pour us all a glass.
After lunch Dave Snyder once again stood up and addressed everyone. Dave suggested that we do the same thing next year again at BORIOS on September 15, 2016. It was unanimous!!!! So, mark you calendar’s everyone and make your travel plans! It’s going to be HUGH……………!
Dave asked me to extend some greeting I received, from Classmates that could not make it to the Reunion. I received greeting to pass along from, John Simmons, Terry Hamblin, Marvin Reed, Judy Butler Parsons, Audrey Parody Wolniak, also I had a great message left on my voicemail from Terry Brown. Terry, as many of you know, lives in Arizona and left an open invitation to contact him if you have any plans to travel out his way.
We had a fifty-fifty raffle and Jeanne’s husband Rod Rittenhouse won the raffle.
Patty Redhead reported we still have a few bucks left in our Class of 1960 Account at least enough to buy some postage stamps for a mailing.
Patty also, shared with us the memorial list of classmates that have died. It’s up to sixteen. I will have a list of those persons separately at the end of this email.
There was some discussion around as to how many graduated in our class. Some guessed 106 others 110. To settle the question, when I arrived home I got my year book out and counted 109 graduates in our class.
We also had a special quest Marion Yerdon join us for lunch. Marion is the Historian for the CSCS Alumni Association, but probably many of you remember as Mr Hughes’s Administrative Secretary.
Marion briefly addressed us and said, “she brought her pen just in case any of us need a pass from the Principal’s Office to get back in class.” Since Sonny Manton didn’t show up for the reunion, Marion’s pen remains full of ink.
The afternoon lingered on and slowly we began to leave. Some high fives, handshakes, a slap on the back, “nice to see you again,” lots of hugs, and a peck on the cheek here and there.
For all of us that attended. We had a great time!
